Project Hyperion
Krustpils, codename Hyperion, is one of four standalone projects in Project Prometheus, Kodo GE’s 1.2 GW battery storage platform in Latvia. The site borders an existing 330 kV substation at a central transmission junction that balances power flows between Latvia’s east and west.
In February 2025 the Baltic states disconnected from the Russian BRELL grid and synchronised with Continental Europe. For the first time, Latvia must balance its own frequency, which creates structural demand for fast, flexible capacity. Hyperion is held in its own project company, so a partner can take this site alone or scale into the full platform.
Land is secured. The immediate focus is aligning development expenditure (DEVEX) funding, while permitting and grid-connection work continue; connection capacity is not reserved.
Why this site
Next to 330 kV
The site borders an existing 330 kV substation at a central junction of Latvia’s transmission backbone. Sitting next to the substation removes the dedicated grid-connection transformer that off-substation projects must build.
A structurally short market
Since Baltic desynchronisation, Latvia balances its own frequency. Fast battery capacity is needed before the market saturates.
Four revenue layers
Frequency restoration (mFRR) and containment (FCR) services, energy arbitrage on Nord Pool, and capacity and grid-stability payments.
Modular entry
Each Prometheus site is a separate project company with its own connection and permits. Take one site, or scale into the full 1.2 GW platform.
